One of our newer projects with the work that we do at Future Living, has seen a Community Hub develop within our building which offers a Community Café and Drop In centre one day a week for the volunteer team, clients and for the local community. (www.fortythreehertford.co.uk) The renovations for the Drop In were funded by Awards for All (the Big Lottery) and is staffed (including baking) by client volunteers who have undertaken the necessary training with Future Living.
This is a proven recipe for success – providing a supported outlet for the young people to practice and hone their new found skills, interact with the public to re build confidence and obtain a reference to go on to paid for work.
The benefits of the Drop In and our clients and volunteers staffing it are self evident; it will bind the community together over a wide range of ages, disabilities and needs, and market the work of the project to future clients. It will also provide an income stream for the charity to continue the work and ensure it’s sustainability into the future. The whole community is getting involved, and it is anticipated that the Drop In project will ultimately be run by a local management committee drawn from our community and including young people from the project itself, taking ownership and guiding it in the long term. If you are interested in becoming a members of the Management Committee please contact us.
Future Living Hertford has worked hard to embrace the community in which it exists in Hertford. A project to provide a garden area for local people to access has been constructed and is maintained by volunteers from the charity; the Café and Drop In are due to launch on 20th September 2017.
