We are delighted to announce an exciting partnership with the Law School at the University of Hertfordshire culminating in the launch of the Future Living Hertford Family Law Clinic and Housing aw Clinic which will open fortnightly for clients currently being delivered on the telephone. This service is open not only to Future Living clients but also members of the public. An appointment system will operate.
Students from the University will run these satellite Clinics under the supervision of qualified lawyers, with our award winning charity in a safe and trusted space, increasing the support the charity provides to its clients.
Law students will provide free legal advice to the victims of domestic violence on family law and housing law. Students will receive full training from both the charity and the University and will work under the supervision of qualified lawyers. The service is confidential and free to access.
Caseworkers will work in pairs to interview new clients at Future Living Hertford’s premises in Hertford or on the telephone during lock down. Students will carry out legal research and prepare a letter of advice.
Depending on the nature of the case, there may be scope for further work including drafting documents such as divorce petitions and instructions to pro bono counsel.
Students will also contact prospective clients by telephone to take instructions in order to decide if the case is suitable for the clinic.
